Conservation Areas

The LRCA proudly offers the community eight Conservation Areas for semi-passive recreational use, access to Lake Superior and other activities such as birding, photography, hiking Wilderness Trails and more! Two of our Forest Management Properties are also open to the public (Mills Block and Wishart). Along with the outdoor recreation and conservation education opportunities offered by our Conservation Areas, we also own and maintain other Conservation Lands that provide habitat protection and assist with water management.

The 2023 Explore Card Parking Pass is available now for $40.00 +HST.  Forgo the $5.00 per vehicle parking fee/day use fee with an Explore Card.  To purchase an Explore Card, visit the LRCA website.

Conservation Areas to Explore

Events and Education

The LRCA offers Environmental Education Programming to school groups, seniors groups, the general public and more! We offer field trips to our “Living Classrooms” (Conservation Areas) and the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway, as well as “in-class” programming at your location or in our Multi-Purpose Room. We also host annual public events in our Conservation Areas, conduct workshops and host guest speakers. To learn more about Events and Education, please visit the LRCA website.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Conservation Areas in the Lakehead Region are privately owned by the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA). They are not City Parks or Crown Land.
  • The LRCA pays property taxes on all land owned by the Authority, including Conservation Areas.
  • The LRCA maintains the trails, parking areas, boat launches and other facilities located within our Conservation Areas without the support of Federal or Provincial funding.
  • Your purchase of an Explore Card Parking Pass or payment of the per vehicle parking fee supports development, maintenance and improvements to the LRCA’s existing trail networks, as well as general Conservation Area maintenance and upkeep.
